Follow the light

Funny how some subjects just fit perfectly, either the day or the mood you're in. Yesterday was a rainy day; doesn't he just fit in!

Sitting quietly in the studio, I was looking for a subject that would allow me to unwind, listen to the rain and paint in a faster, more relaxed style. I mean that flowers, my favourite topics, usually require concentration because I have to paint all the details. Sometimes, it's just lovely to take the brushes and paint for the fun of it!

Not many people know this, but I've been fighting a major depression/burnout for the past four years. It's been a hard and long battle. Art is such an essential part of my healing process. While painting the light in this duck scene, I could not help but think that I had lost this beautiful light in my life and that it was not easy to get it back. This time, I will keep this painting and meditate on that light. I'm sure it will give me lots of positive taught to move forward as I've been doing slowly but surely.
